XL Group plc (鈥淴L鈥�) (NYSE: XL) today announced that it plans to hold itsninth Global Day of Giving on Friday, May 9, 2014. The company-wide employeevolunteer day is dedicated to supporting the communities in which XL operates.

Since the inception of Global Day of Giving in 2006, when XL celebratedits 20^th anniversary, XL employees have performed more than 150,000hours of community service through hundreds of charitable projects in variouslocations worldwide.

XL鈥檚 Chief Executive Officer, Mike McGavick, said: 鈥淓very year we at XLlook forward to rolling up our sleeves and working side by side with non-profitorganizations dedicated to addressing societal issues.  Our Global Day of Giving is a special timefor us to directly connect with numerous charities and make a tangibledifference in the communities in which we live and work.鈥� 

During this year鈥檚 Global Day of Giving more than 175 projects have beenscheduled in more than 50 locations around the world to address issues such as:

Homelessness/Hunger: Preparing meals for the needy (Bermuda, Singapore,Switzerland and USA); gardening and clean-up of a women鈥檚 shelter (Canada);organizing clothing and household donations (Bermuda, Spain and USA); games andactivities with children in state care (Argentina); and gardening andmaintenance for a home for young women suffering from clinical disorders (USA).

Education/Youth Development:Painting, dancing and games with children rescuedfrom child trafficking (India); arts and literacy activities with children fromlow-income areas (USA); employability and business workshops for young people(Ireland, USA and France); preparing learning kits to help children mastermathematics (Bermuda); making rag dolls while teaching children about basichuman rights with UNICEF (France).

Senior Care: Preparing the gardens of a nursing home (Austria)and socializing with seniors (Germany and India).

Environment and Animals: Gardening at an urban roof-top teaching farm, whichhelps to educate youth about nutrition and the environment, and expanding theproduction garden at a 200 year old working farm (USA); Preparing YMCA Campfacilities (Australia); conservation and forest management (Netherlands);preserving historic sites (Bermuda); gardening and planting at a heritage site ofherbal medicine (China); supporting animal shelters (Mexico, USA, UK);beautifying public parks and beaches (Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA).
