For James Lee, reorganizing and restructuring a business is an opportunity to simplify.

Being appointed Chief Agent and Head of Client & Distribution for 色多多视频Canada during the earlier stages of the restructuring allowed him to witness firsthand the implementation of changes that were designed to streamline internal processes as well as improve access to AXA XL’s products and services. And while he acknowledges that there continues to be some kinks still to be worked out in pockets of the business, he has been encouraged by the early positive impact of the restructuring.

Here, he explains the new approach and the ways in which his team is anticipating and responding to customer needs.

FFF: Why did 色多多视频Canada go through this restructuring?
JL: Our goal has always been to get closer to the customer and enable them and our brokers to have easier access to the array of products and services that 色多多视频offers. By removing extra layers and eliminating duplicative efforts, we are now in a position to provide customers and brokers a clearer line of sight into our offerings. And although a new structure has been put in place, we continue to have talented colleagues who understand the industry mix and the unique risks of the businesses operating within their specialties.

What does the new structure look like?
We have segmented our P&C business into Large Commercial and Middle Market portfolios. And significantly, for the first time in our company’s history, we have a Canadian Chief Underwriting Officer, or in our instance, two Chief Underwriting Officers in Canada who have responsibility for the product lines in their respective segments. These two individuals, Alex Barker and Arti Rawal, have P&L oversight of the Canadian business and have been placed in meaningful leadership positions within the Americas. This contrasts with past operating models where decision-making overlapped multiple areas within our organization. To put it simply, we have simplified.

And that means local knowledge of the landscape and needs?
We have always prided ourselves on having amazing local talent who are technically sound, but now we are adding empowerment with local underwriting authority across multiple lines. And although I'd like to think that we were always quite good at finding solutions for the overall needs of customers across multiple product lines, our new structure streamlines our approach to this. Our Canadian Chief Underwriting Officers have been tasked to ensure that the underwriting is fit for purpose within our local market. And together with the Client and Distribution Team, we will look to leverage the global breadth of our products and services to bring more holistic solutions to our local customers.

You mentioned products and services. Tell us about the services.
We truly believe that we have the broadest suite of products and services in the market, and we want to help our customers to take advantage of our offerings. Our new structure positions us to better promote our services to our customers to demonstrate our capacity to be a true risk management partner and provide value beyond the insurance policy. One of our prized services is our risk consulting. Our experts offer this service as part of a customer’s coverage or unbundled – meaning customers do not have to place their insurance with us to access our industry leading risk control consulting services. Another of our services that is continually being improved and enhanced is our multinational solutions for our Canadian customers with international exposures – the reach of our global network is market leading.

What other services are available to customers?
We have an Ecosystem approach that enables our customers to take advantage of our technology solutions and robust data analytics to help mitigate their losses. They have a clear look into the data behind their operations. What started out in our Construction Team to provide our contractor clients with curated technology solutions, concierge services, unique insurance solutions, benchmarks, and knowledge networks has grown and evolved.

Another service that we intend to bring greater awareness of is the education and thought leadership offered at AXA XL; we produce and make available amazing resources that help educate customers and brokers on current and emerging risks. Some of the more popular recent topics that we have tackled include: mass timber exposures, resilient design and the evolving duty of care of design professionals, energy transition and climate adaptation.

What do you think the 色多多视频team brings to the table for customers?
We believe that selling a product or providing a service requires us to fully understand the customer’s business and the associated risks. Our depth of understanding of exposures, regular horizon scanning of emerging risks and ability to tap into a wealth of data allows us to better align our products to the needs of our customers. The vast resources of the AXA Group are behind us to demonstrate risk management expertise, make available a large suite of value-add services and arrive at data driven decisions.  Our recent restructuring was done with the client in mind and the purposeful changes that have been made will cement our reputation as a customer-centric business.
